The state of Indiana (In) is located in the Midwestern region of the United States of America. With its resident population of 6.3million Indiana ranks 14th in terms of population. Within the population figures, the number of students pursuing college or post graduation is the greatest. The government of Indiana has taken initiatives to promoting vocational education which is implemented through the Department of workforce Development (DWD) and the Department of Education (DOE). These two departments have been particularly setup to regulate In vocational education. With the setting up of Indiana commission on Vocational and technical education (ICVTE) vocational education in Indiana has seen a leap forward, as it seeks individuals to gain skills that are specifically oriented to a particular job.
Implementation There are many advantages of implementing In vocational education. It is the very nature of vocational education which is specifically catered for students that want to gain skills that are specifically designed for the workplace. With a booming industrial sector Indiana needs a fresh pool of talent specifically in the technical sector. The ICVTE has identified jobs such as-
- Carpentry - Motor engineering and repair - Crafts designing - Assembling computer hardware - Hotel services
These are some of the key skills that ICVTE would like to implement in Indiana. As the advances in vocational education are changing continuously it becomes important to implement vocational courses in Indiana so as to provide students that are opting for these courses better access to jobs. In Vocational education is to be implemented by set goals that has been designed according to ICVTE strategy which is- A Strategy for Building a World-Class System of Vocational and Technical Education in Indiana. ICVTE seeks to implement this strategy by introducing vocational courses through the public delivery system. According to this system state funds are distributed to local schools that offer tuition and other services for vocational programs. DWD also distributes the funds through the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act. This act is mandatory for all educational institutes to follow as it maintains the quality of training that individuals are acquiring through vocational education. Advantages In vocational education has enabled various advantages for students especially if they want to pursue a job that has particular job demands. These demands can only be met if there are courses providing the adequate skills that are specific for the job. Some of the advantages of vocational education include- - Career specificity- Vocational courses allow students to gain skills specifically for a particular job. This is true to the very nature of vocational courses as they do not offer any academic knowledge but concentrate on the practical application of knowledge for a specific career requirement.
